I have the pleasure to invite
you to read my book dedicated to study the figure of Devil in Art. This book
aims to fill the gap in bibliography about this subject and contribute to the historiographical
study of this theme full of content and scientific interest. It analyzes the figure of the Devil in Art from Antiquity
to the present day, exploring the various attributes who acquire along history
and collaborating in the definition and creation of his malignant identity. The
Devil is the personification of evil and its nature is set from iconic elements
taken from different religions outside the Christian as classical Greco-Roman
beliefs, the Jewish and Islamic creed, as well as physical features and
attributes of the enemies of Christianity. With his reading we understand
the superstitions attributed to redheaded people, the reason for the blue demons
and evil connotations of the shadow and the reflection in the mirror. In fact,
these physical and psychological traits owe much to the substrate demonic and infernal,
Christian heritage, which underlines in our culture. The
book is divided into five chapters that discuss the various personifications of evil, the devil in the Bible, physical traits and personality, the evil reborn
in Romanticism and its fall in the Contemporary Age, and finally the triumph of
diabolical temptation with the visit to his kingdom and condemnation of sins. All
accompanied by numerous pictures of the different styles of art such as
sculpture, painting and miniature.
