Las pautas principales del demonio fílmico, provienen de la definición y configuración física de este personaje por la Iglesia Cristiana en la Edad Media. Imaginando una figura poderosa y temible trataban de amedrentar a un público predominantemente inculto.
Curiosamente estos rasgos precisos y didácticos han continuado hasta la actualidad, siendo los siglos XX y XXI, centurias más laicas y con unos espectadores bastante más formados.
Desde el color amarillo como tono que alude al terror, a la cojera de los personajes negativos, las connotaciones maléficas de los pelirrojos; forman el aspecto físico que define al Maligno desde el Medievo.
Igualmente el doble del individuo reflejado en el espejo, la sombra como silueta imperfecta del que la porta, adquieren connotaciones negativas, herencia de la superstición medieval. En realidad, estos rasgos físicos y psicológicos deben mucho al sustrato demoníaco e infernal que subyace en nuestra cultura

Historical notes on the role of the devil in cinema
The main features of the devil in films are rooted in the definition and aspect conveyed by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. There was a clear intention to intimidate a mostly illiterate public through a powerful and terrifying figure.
Surprisingly enough, these specific and didactic traits have survived to our days, even when both the 20th and 21st c. are much more secular and the general public is much more educated.
From yellow relating to fear to limping in negative characters or evil connotations of read-head individuals, the features of the Devil in the Middle Ages remain a constant nowadays. But these are not the only characteristics that have survived, the same happens with the double reflection in a mirror, or the shadow as an imperfect silhouette of the subject; these too capture negative connotations inherited from medieval traditions. All these physical and psychological features owe much to the demonic and infernal substrate that underlies our culture.
